Customer Installation Guide and Experience

🛠 Recommended Tools

  • Tape measure & carpenter's pencil
  • Chalk line
  • 4-inch putty knife
  • Broom or shop vacuum
  • Utility knife (sharp blades)
  • Metal straight edge (38–76 inches)
  • Claw hammer
  • Silicone hand roller (4" / 100mm)
  • Extendable floor roller (100 lbs pressure)
  • Cementitious latex-based patching compound
  • Pail for mixing patching compound
  • Primer (if needed)
  • Metal drip edge (optional)
  • Construction adhesive (optional)

🔥 Preparation Before Installation

  • Read and follow all instructions carefully.
  • Check local building codes.
  • Inspect the material before installation.
  • Ensure the surface is dry and moisture-free.
  • Acclimate the material 24–48 hours in advance.
  • Minimum installation temperature: 34°F (1°C).

🧹 Surface Preparation

  • Ensure the surface is flat, dry, and stable.

  • Remove contaminants or conditions that prevent adhesion (mechanical grinding may be needed).

  • Sand down rough areas.

  • Install metal flashing or trim (if needed).

  • Fill gaps and damaged areas with latex cement-based patching compound and sand smooth.

  • Sweep and vacuum thoroughly.

  • Seal patched areas with an appropriate primer (e.g., Zinsser BIN Shellac-Based Primer Sealer).

  • Inspect the material for defects before installation.

🧮 Layout Planning

  • Plan the layout to avoid an uneven or awkward appearance.

  • Install the material lengthwise and parallel to the most dominant wall.

  • Measure diagonally across all four corners to ensure the surface is square.

  • For outdoor decks, start from the outer edge and work towards the building.

✂️ Dry-Fitting

  • Snap a chalk line to guide the first panel.

  • Allow a 1-inch overhang at the perimeter.

  • Cut the panel to size using a sharp utility knife and straight edge.

  • Keep the blade upright for a clean 90-degree cut.

  • Always cut with the bottom side up.

  • Position the panel without removing the release liner.

🛠 Multi-Piece Installation

  • Align each new panel tightly against the previous one, ensuring factory edges meet.

  • Place cut edges along the perimeter or around obstacles.

  • Allow a 1-inch overhang at the perimeter and mark for cutting.

  • Dry-fit the multi-piece panel into place.

✏️ Cutting for Fitting

  • Always use a sharp utility knife with a straight edge.

  • Keep the blade upright for clean, straight cuts.

  • Cut with the bottom side up whenever possible.

  • For obstacles, make a relief cut to ensure the membrane lays flat.

  • Create templates for irregular shapes before cutting.

🚀 Installing the Membrane

  • After finalizing cuts and dry-fitting, begin removing the release liner in small sections.

  • Peel back 3-5 inches of the liner and align the panel.

  • Press the membrane into place, working from the edge to avoid air bubbles.

  • Continue peeling and pressing in sections.

  • Ensure tight seams and avoid overlapping at joints.

  • Trim excess membrane at the edges.

  • Roll the entire surface with a 100 lb extendable floor roller to ensure a solid bond.

🧩 Custom Fit for Partial Decks

If some deck areas are uncovered, cut and place custom pieces carefully to cover gaps.

🌟 After Installation

  • Inspect for adhesion and neat seams.
  • Take before-and-after photos.
